(Ephestia elutella)
Biology:
The storage moth (Fam. Pyralidae) is widespread in Europe and large parts of North America. The moth has a wingspan of 16-20 mm. Its gray to brown-grey forewings show wavy transverse bands with dark edges. Its way of life is largely the same as that of the dried fruit moth. However, the storage moth can also occur outdoors.
Damage:
In addition to its way of life, the diet of the storage moth is also very similar to that of the dried fruit moth, so that the damage caused is similar. Its various names (besides storage moth also hay moth, tobacco moth or cocoa moth) indicate a rich diet that includes cocoa beans, tobacco and even hay and straw in addition to cereal products, nuts, sweets (main pest of the confectionery industry) etc.
