(Blatta orientalis)
Biology:
The Oriental cockroach is also known as the cockroach. It grows to a size of 20 – 28 mm. The males are dark chestnut brown and have fully developed wings that are slightly shorter than the abdomen. The females are almost black and have only small stubby wings. They lay their egg packets of around 16 eggs randomly after just 2 – 5 days. The larvae hatch from these after 2 – 3 months and take six months to two years or longer to develop into adults, depending on the temperature.
Although the cockroach, like the American cockroach, is thermophilic, it can also cope with lower temperatures and can even reproduce at 15 °C. The animals are unable to fly and are less able to climb than, for example, the American cockroach(Periplaneta americana) and the German cockroach(Blattella germanica) and usually hide in the ground, in pipe shafts or sewage pipes.
Damage:
Their way of life and damage is similar to that of the American cockroach.
