(Nemapogon cloacellus)
Biology:
The cork or sluice moth (family Tineidae, true moths) is closely related to the grain moth and has a very similar appearance. It lives in damp grain, on mushrooms and in wine cellars. There the eggs are laid on bottle corks or damp wine barrels.
Damage:
The damage to cereals is similar to that of the grain moth. However, the cork moth prefers moister cereals than those with a grain water content of less than 15 % and is therefore only found in farm stores. In wine cellars, however, it is sometimes very damaging due to cork feeding and the associated destruction of bottle corks.
