On May 20, 2025, Baldur Grunt had the privilege of attending the panel discussion “CLOSING THE GAPS – Identifying legislative loopholes in the EU framework against counterfeit and illegal plant protection products,” hosted by MEP Vytenis Povilas Andriukaitis at the European Parliament in Brussels.
This important event brought together policymakers, industry leaders, and experts to discuss practical solutions for strengthening the EU’s response to counterfeit and illegal plant protection products.
A key highlight was the opening presentation by Jose Checa, who outlined priority actions (see link below)—from addressing inconsistent sanctions and insufficient online sales controls to closing loopholes in parallel trade and transit procedures.
As a dedicated industry stakeholder, Detia Degesch Group remains committed to collaborating with CropLife, regulators, and authorities to enhance food-supply-chain integrity. The fight against illegal and counterfeit pesticides is not just about intellectual property—it is crucial for food safety, public and workers health, and environmental protection, ensuring the highest standards across Europe.
Thank you to all participants, and to MEP Andriukaitis for fostering such valuable dialogue on this pressing issue.
