Seiner

(Stomoxys calcitrans)

Biology:

In appearance, the damselfly is very similar to the large housefly, but has a pointed proboscis in the middle of its head. The larvae develop in manure. The animal is mainly found in the countryside and, as a warmth-loving species, likes to retreat into homes in the fall.

Damage:

Both male and female calf stingers sting humans and pets and suck blood. The sting of these exclusively diurnal animals is quite painful. Pets are sometimes so severely tortured that milk and fattening yields can drop significantly. However, the calf stinger is not only a nuisance, but also a health and hygiene pest, as it can transmit pathogens such as Escherichia coli, salmonella, listeria and borrelia when sucking blood.
